Millions of African people remain without reliable access to electricity. For them, life comes to a stop after sunset. But we can change that.
Lack of energy access results in deprivation and lost economic opportunity. Compounding these challenges is Africa’s vulnerability to climate change. It’s no longer an option to expand existing energy supply by burning fossil fuels. An affordable, flexible and sustainable solution to power off-grid areas is needed.
Spark develops sustainable, affordable, modular and easy to use energy solutions. These provide people in off-grid areas with safe access to clean energy, improving living standards and creating jobs. Our plug and play solutions allow communities to share surplus energy to earn additional income and create a distributed energy network.
In 2020, we raised 3.5 million growth capital which we are using to expand our team whilst scaling up, with renewed product design and branding. Our team grew from 7 to more than 30 people.
Product innovation is at the forefront of our business. We aim to create new Spark solutions with bigger power capacities that can be used to share energy between houses. These solutions will be able to supply energy for non-Spark (productive use) products as well.
By 2030 Spark products will be ready for the Internet Of Things (I.O.T.), which means that the system is connected to the internet and linked to an app. Devices can be switched on and off from a distance, but more importantly, energy is only used when needed and surplus is divided in the smartest way possible.
Spark Batteries will now be part of a flexible energy grid that powers homes, businesses and small factories. Solar power will no longer be the only renewable generation option. Wind, biogas and other solutions will be available too.
